Connected vessels.
Shared responsibilities.
For fleet managers, shipping companies and crews working with connected inland vessels, where customer requirements, maintenance access and shore-side responsibility meet.
02 / 05 · Context · NIS2 and the commercial chain
NIS2 and customer requirements. What does your fleet need to demonstrate?
The Dutch Cybersecurity Act (Cyberbeveiligingswet), which transposes the EU NIS2 Directive into national law, entered into force on 15 August 2026. Organisations within scope must manage cyber risks and meet incident-reporting obligations. Inland shipping operators may also face cybersecurity requirements from cargo owners and charterers. The practical question: who manages the risks on board, and how can your organisation demonstrate the measures taken?

- 01
What must you demonstrate, and to whom?
Document measures and incident follow-up for the shipping company, cargo owner or charterer.
- 02
Who can reach your vessel systems?
Set boundaries around engine and energy systems, supplier laptops, remote maintenance and vessel-shore connections.
- 03
Who reviews and follows up incidents?
Share responsibilities across fleet, shore and crew with agreed escalation and action responsibilities, so crew need not become the cyber team.
03 / 05 · Pillar 1 · Protect
