Cybersecurity for connected energy hubs.

aXite contributes to Cyber-Secure Energy Hubs, a collaborative project co-funded by the European Union and Kansen voor West. In Scheveningen, aXite is creating a digital twin of the Slim Strandnet to test cybersecurity measures separately from the operational energy system.

Why it matters03 / 06

Connected hubs exchange data.

Local energy hubs exchange digital information to coordinate generation, storage and consumption. The same connections that make coordination possible also carry risk: every link between systems is something that has to be secured.

Testing security measures on the operating system itself is not always an option. For that reason, aXite creates a separate copy of the Slim Strandnet, a digital twin, to investigate vulnerabilities and test measures away from the operational system.

Roles and scopes04 / 06

Who is involved, and what is separate.

Roles

Kansen voor West
The funding programme that co-funds the project together with the European Union. It is not a customer or an operator.
European Union
Co-financier of the project. It does not certify the work or the installation.
Slim Strandnet
The energy installation in Scheveningen that the digital twin is based on.
Scheveningen
The project location, within the Living Lab Scheveningen in The Hague.
Security Delta (HSD)
The security ecosystem and project partner. Security Delta, TU Delft and Living Lab Scheveningen are among the participating organisations.
aXite
Contributes the digital twin of the Slim Strandnet and the cybersecurity testing around it.

Two separate scopes

Endpoint protection and the isolated test environment are separate scopes. They are described separately here and on their own pages.

  • Endpoint protection

    AX-Box Gatekeeper and AX-Energy Protect

Protection placed at the connected energy endpoint, at the boundary of the asset.

    Energy grid endpoint protection
  • Isolated test environment

    AX-Cyberrange

A separate environment, built around a digital twin, where cybersecurity measures can be tested without touching the operational system.
